How to grow Chives 'Forescate'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Forescate is generally regarded as a hardy plant, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Forescate needs a sandy, clay and peat-rich soil with a ph of 5.2 to 8.3 (weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil).

Growing Forescate from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.51 inches (1.3 cm). For optimal germination, soil temperature should be a minimum of 15°C / 59°F.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Forescate about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Forescate

Forescate is hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.

Harvesting Forescate

This variety tends to mature and be ready for harvest in mid summer.
