Snow Pea is a member of the Pisum family. Its botanical name is Pisum sativum var. saccharatum. The scientific name epithet sativum means 'having been cultivated'.

Snow peas differ from snap peas (Pisum sativum var. macrocarpon) in that their pods are flat as opposed to round.

Snow Pea grows as an annual and is an edible vegetable / legume. Being an annual plant, it tends to grow best over the course of a single year. Normally grows with a viny habit.
