Dianthus chinensis x barbatus

How to grow Dianthus 'Chiba F1'

  • Full Sun

  • High

Likes a well-drained, porous media. Allow them to dry between watering but don’t allow plants to wilt severely as this results in yellow leaves and stunts growth. Tolerates daily watering, especially if in containers. Apply a dilute solution of foliar fertilizer mixed with a fungicide once every two weeks for optimum growth. High potassium-fertiliser will promote continuous flowering.

It may be occasionally prone to attacks from alternaria leaf spot, fusarium wilt, downy mildew, spider mites, thrips, whitefly or mealy bugs. This can be controlled or prevented by dilute insecticides and fungicides. Applying a fungicide should minimize fungal diseases during the rainy season.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water often. Chiba F1 requires a soil ph of 6.0 - 6.5 meaning it does best in weakly acidic soil.
