California Poppy 'Single Mixed'

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that Single Mixed is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside.

Try to ensure a gap of at least 5.85 inches (15.0 cm) when sowing to prevent overcrowding your seedlings.

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Single Mixed is a tender plant.

These wild flowers were designated the state flower of California in 1903.¹ There is no law that specifically protects the poppy, however California Penal Code Section 384a does require written permission from the landowner before picking flowers or digging any plant.¹ Landowners may pick them at will on their own property with no worries.¹
