Water plants with rain or distilled water to help reduce lime build-up. Needs acid soil. Fertilize with acid fertilizer.

Needs short photo period in order to set buds. If in pot allow only 8 hours of light a day for 4 weeks then resume normal lighting (ideally 16 hours a day). Temperature does not affect bud set.2

Gardenia Etymology

The name cape jasmine was due to the belief that these plants came from the cape of Africa.5

In India the name comes from two words gandha which means smell, and raj which means king.
