How to grow Spinach 'Catalina'

  • Full Sun

  • Low

Position in a full sun location and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that Catalina is thought of as half hardy, so remember to protect this plant from frosts and low temperatures. Ensure your soil is loamy and has a ph of between 6.0 and 7.0 as Spinach is a weakly acidic soil to neutral soil loving plant.

Growing Catalina from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.12 inches (8.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.49 inches (1.25 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 8°C / 46°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Catalina about 60 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Catalina

Ensure that temperatures are mild (minimum night temperatures should be around 0°C / 32°F) and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Catalina is a half hardy plant.
