How to grow Thyme 'German'

  • Full Sun

  • Low

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that German is thought of as hardy, so this plant will survive close to or on freezing temperatures. Planting German in sandy soil with a ph of between 6.0 and 7.0 is ideal for as it does best in weakly acidic soil to neutral soil.

Growing German from seed

Look to ensure a distance 11.7 inches (30.0 cm) between German seeds when sowing to make sure your seedlings have enough space. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 21°C / 70°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing German about 42 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting German

As German is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
