Hill up soil around the plant as it grows to cover tubers so that they are not exposed to light.
Plant indoors no more than 6 weeks before transplant date (after last spring frost). Bury the stem several times during early growth, either by adding soil to the pot or by transplanting. Grow seedlings in very bright light.
Plant the stem as deep as possible without covering too many leaves.
