How to grow Radish 'Zlata'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Sow March to September outdoors or January to March under glass.
Sow thinly in broad drills, 1cm (½in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Water ground regularly, especially during dry periods.

Thin as necessary, allowing 2.5cm (1in) between seedlings.

Keep watered to prevent bolting (running to seed) and hot, pithy roots.
Great for growing in spring and autumn. Resistant to bolting & splitting.

Enjoys a full sun position in your garden and remember to water moderately. Zlata is generally regarded as a half hardy plant, so it will require protection in frosts and low temperatures. Zlata needs a loamy, clay and sandy soil with a ph of 5.5 to 6.8 (weakly acidic soil).

Growing Zlata from seed

Pre-soaking seeds (max. 24hrs) can hasten germination time.

Sow at a depth of approx. 0.39 inches (1.0 cm) and aim for a distance of at least 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) between Radish plants. For optimal germination, soil temperature should be a minimum of 7°C / 45°F.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Zlata about 28 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Zlata

Great for growing in spring and autumn.

Zlata is half hardy, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside.
