Jalapeno chillies taper to a blunt end, are 7.5cm long and 3cm in diameter. Glossy deep green in colour, turning bright red when ripe, very pungent. Sow chilli seed 6mm deep into seedling pots. Use liquid fertiliser once germinated. Transplant when soil is warm. Space plants 45cm/18in apart in full sun. Give moderate fertiliser and water. Avoid high nitrogen fertilisers as these will promote leaf growth at the expense of fruit. Bushes are hardy and extremely productive and grow to 90cm/3ft high.
