Mentha pulegium

Pennyroyal is a member of the Mentha family. Its botanical name is Mentha pulegium.

  • Excellent ground-cover and can happily be walked on; it releases a fragrant scent when walked on
  • Good container plant – will hang over the sides
  • Flowers and leaves can be dried for potpourri

  • Rub fresh pennyroyal onto dogs’ coats to repel fleas (hence its name, “Fleabane”)
Blooms normally display as a colour very similar to   Lilac. Pennyroyal is a flowering herb perennial, it will last at least up to several years in its native climate. Normally grows with a ground-cover habit. This plant tends to bloom in mid summer.

Pennyroyal is normally quite a low maintenance plant and is normally very easy to grow - great for beginner gardeners!
