How to grow Hosta liberty 'Big Daddy'

  • Full Shade

  • Medium

Partial Sun to shade.
Hostas are best propagated by division, that can be done at any time but is easiest as they just break dormancy in the spring

Keep in mind when planting that Big Daddy is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will tend to survive through freezing conditions.

Growing Big Daddy from seed

Can be grown from seed but it is easier and quicker to split a mature clump after flowering in the autumn or very early in the spring before the hosta starts into growth

Try to ensure a gap of at least 3.90 feet (1.20 metres) when sowing to prevent overcrowding your seedlings. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 10°C / 50°F to ensure good germination.

Transplanting Big Daddy

Prefers damp shade, for best growth and colour. Can be used in containers

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Big Daddy is a very hardy plant.
