How to grow Shasta Daisy 'Alaska'

  • Full Sun

  • Low

Keep flowers picked to prolong blooming period. Feed every spring.

A full sun position will ensure your plant thrives and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. Keep in mind when planting that Alaska is thought of as hardy, so Alaska will tend to go dormant or grow slowly over the winter months. Alaska requires a loamy and potting mix soil with a ph of 6.0 - 8.0 - it grows best in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Alaska from seed

Plant outside as soon as soil can be worked or indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost for earlier blooms. Can also be started in summer for early spring blossoms the following year. Firm soil over seed when planting.

Look to ensure a distance 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) between seeds when sowing - bury at a depth of at least 0.06 inches (0.15 cm) deep.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Alaska about 49 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Alaska

Thin when 2" tall to 18" spacing

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Alaska is a hardy plant.
