How to grow Cauliflower 'Cheddar'

  • Full Sun

  • Medium

Not heat tolerant. Fall harvest.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Cheddar is thought of as hardy, so this plant will grow or become dormant during the winter. A soil ph of between 6.5 and 7.0 is ideal for Cheddar as it does best in weakly acidic soil - neutral soil.

Growing Cheddar from seed

Can be winter-sown.

Sow at a depth of approx. 0.58 inches (1.5 cm) and aim for a distance of at least 3.12 inches (8.0 cm) between Cauliflower plants. Soil temperature should be kept higher than 24°C / 75°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Cheddar about 70 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Cheddar

As Cheddar is hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
