How to grow Broccoli 'Green Magic'

  • Partial Sun

  • Medium

Green Magic is one of the most heat tolerant varieties and is also very suitable for early fall harvests in the Northeast.

Try to plant in a location that enjoys partial sun and remember to water moderately. Keep in mind when planting that Green Magic is thought of as half hardy, so remember to protect this plant from frosts and low temperatures. Ideally plant in loamy and sandy soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.2 and 7.2 as Green Magic likes to be in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Green Magic from seed

Seed germinates in 6-8 days between 70 and 80 degrees

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 5.85 inches (15.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.51 inches (1.3 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 13°C / 55°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Green Magic about 40 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Green Magic

Plant out just before last frost and cover if temperatures go below 28 degrees F or -2C

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Green Magic is a half hardy plant.

By our calculations, you should look at planting out Green Magic about 6 days before your last frost date.

Harvesting Green Magic

This variety tends to be ready for harvesting by early summer.
