Soil determines the quality of the flavor. Will thrive in good garden soil. Becomes woody in light, dry soil. Plant in summer for a fall harvest.

Keep in mind when planting that Brora is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will tend to survive through freezing conditions. Planting Brora in loamy and clay soil with a ph of between 6.5 and 7.2 is ideal for as it does best in weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil.

Growing Brora from seed

Try to aim for a seed spacing of at least 3.9 inches (10.0 cm) and sow at a depth of around 0.47 inches (1.2 cm).

Transplanting Brora

As Brora is very hardy, ensure temperatures are mild enough to plant out - wait until after your last frost date to be on the safe side.
