An annual vine (technically “bines” not vines) from a perennial rhizome. Vigorous climber, up to 25 feet if given the chance. Climbs by twisting around narrow object such as twine, cord, wire, or pole. Varieties grown for the flowers/cones which contain bitter oils and aromatic compounds used to flavor beer. Not a picky plant, the rhizomes spread under favorable conditions, allowing the plant to be divided. All varietals are propagated from root cuttings or layering.
Hops belongs to the Humulus genus.
