How to grow Chinese cabbage 'Joi Choi'

  • Full Sun

  • High

Plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water often. Keep in mind when planting that Joi Choi is thought of as hardy, so it can be safe to leave outdoors for the majority of winter (although if in doubt, using a row cover is often a good idea). Ideally plant in loamy soil and try to keep the ph of your soil between the range of 6.5 and 7.0 as Joi Choi likes to be in weakly acidic soil to neutral soil.

Growing Joi Choi from seed

Aim to sow 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) deep and try to ensure a gap of at least 5.94 inches (15.24 cm). Soil temperature should be kept higher than 18°C / 64°F to ensure good germination.

By our calculations, you should look at sowing Joi Choi about 14 days before your last frost date.

Transplanting Joi Choi

Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Joi Choi is a hardy plant.
