A French Heirloom melon. Deeply furrowed, puffy cream skin, it almost looks like a pumpkin. The fruit is very fragrant. This is how you will know it is ripe as it does not slip from the vine like other rockmelon’s. It has a recessed stem and a large round scar on the blossom end. It grown on vigorous vines with dark tooth like leaves.
It is native to Armenia from where it was taken to Italy. From Italy it was introduced to France in 1495 (!!!) From here it found it’s way to Spain, Holland, England & beyond.
This has now taken the mantle of Kristie’s Favourite Cantaloupe. Yummy!!
