I’m not sure if this will work or not, but I planted some chunks of a strawberry fruit into soil and am crossing my fingers for the best!

Hi, I’m a new gardener & new to this site. I’m in Wauchula, not too far from you. I bought some strawberry plants last year that were drying up at Home Depot so I got them pretty cheap, I guess. Was so happy to have them & dug out a special area for them. Had no sooner planted them than I found out the growers plow them under & start fresh with new plants each year. I was very unhappy that I spent the money, but decided I would run a fan on them all summer if I had to to keep them a bit cooler. They have done just fine over the summer, still producing the occasional berry. I have come to the conclusion that the growers don’t want to water them when they are not producing well. Did you actually get plants from planting a strawberry?

I had a few strawberries when they were first transplanted into the yard, and then no more. The weather has been pretty erratic lately, baking them one day and drowning them the next. A couple of them are still alive, but in different areas since they have stretched and spread. Ah well, maybe next spring :)
