Mmerose's Winter Blooming Iris
Iris unguicularis
This iris brightens up a gloomy winter. It blooms from around Thanksgiving (late November) until March or later here in zone 8. I started with one small plant several years ago, have since broken it up, and broken those up, and…on & on. I have them all over! It is easy to grow, seems to thrive in all conditions, except in one area where my neighbor’s evergreen trees shed too many dead needles on them. I would love to know how it fares in other zones – when it finishes blooming, I have one plant I plan to break up and would be willing to swap. Make me an offer of one of your favorites in exchange!
