29 Oct 2009Bag-ripening works for pumpkins too 3 Pumpkin WS 1110°C / 50°F
This pumpkin was half-green. Stuck it in a bag with a couple of apples (apparently for the ethylene gas), and voila. The toms are all bag ripened as well.

I figured when I planted that I’d need 5 to 7 pumpkins to be able to can what I could use and had room for. Well, I got my 7 pumpkins, but it’s now a race against the powdery mildew. Just hoping the pumpkins ripen before the mildew kills the vines. I’ve treated and sprayed wi...

30 Jul 2009Thwarting the evil furfaces 3 Pumpkin WS 11 Setting Fruit and Pumpkin, indoor tray Setting FruitAt 9 this morning on my way out the door found a new pumpkin. At 11 on my way back someone had taken a huge bite out of it (as well as knocking bricks over on my onions, and nibbling at one of the brandywines.) So I put chicken wire cages over all the pollinated fruits. We hates them!23°C / 73°F
