I sowed this in a pot on my kitchen window sill. According to the package instructions you can only sow this from April onwards, but I’m giving it a go anyway

Basil is one of my favourite herbs, Annet :) Unfortunately the caterpillars seem to like it too – hopefully you won’t have this problem on your kitchen windowsill! I got my seed of Basil Genovese from Thompson and Morgan’s online website. I see they have a Basil collection called, would you believe, “The Spice Boys”?!? They reckon sow for windowsills late winter to spring to maybe you’re not too far out.

Thanks for that comment :) I’ll remember those caterpillars, since I’m planning to sow a big patch of basil in my raised bed this summer! ‘The spice boys’, that’s funny. I’ve tried different types of basil, but I think I like this one best, because it’s so aromatic and the leaves are nice and soft.

When it’s mature, try frying leaves for two minutes. Yummiest “Chips” you’ll ever taste, and a great garnish for a special dinner…
