Black Walnut trees sprouted from nuts planted in my garden by the industrious neighborhood squirrels.
If their parent tree is any indication, this variety is fairly quick-growing and early producing.
I planted these in a line of trees at my parents’ house. The day I planted them it was 92 degrees and the wind was blowing about 30 mph, so we’ll see how they do.
I built deer-proofing around them and made small wind-breaks for them out of scrap red cedar. Aside from them getting watered regularly, that’s about all we can do for them.
