Cow Peas direct seed into the garden from about the time of the last spring frost to early summer. Sow one inch deep spacing rows a minimum of 14-16" apart and allowing 2-4" between seeds within the row. For running types allow 4-5 feed between rows. Cow peas are heat and drought tolerant,but often are more productive with adequate irrigation. Immature pods can be used as snaps,if picked small enough to be tender. For dry peas, allow pods to stay on vine until brown and dried.

Look to ensure a distance 5.85 inches (15.0 cm) between seeds when sowing - cover at a depth of at least 0.98 inches (2.5 cm) deep if you are going to sow this directly in the garden.

Try to apply water fairly sparingly.

Ensure your soil has a ph of between 5.5 and 6.5 as Cow pea 'Pinkeye purple hull' is a acidic soil loving plant.
