Small pot added to centre of raised bed between Thyme and Santolina. Smells lovely and helps fill the gap when the two herbs either side get cut back in Spring.
Hardy perennial Alyssum.
Masses of honey scented yellow flowers Spring-early Summer.
Grey green evergreen foliage.
Ideal for rockeries, walls, paving cracks and front of borders.
Height with Flowers: 15 cm
Spacing between Plants: 25 cm
Attractive to bees.
Drought-tolerant.
Acid to Neutral soil in sun.
Self-sows freely.
Propagating:
Woody stem cuttings, semi-hardwood cuttings, direct sow outdoors in autumn, winter sow in vented containers, coldframe or unheated greenhouse, stratify if sowing indoors, sow indoors before last frost
To emulate nature sow June-July though can be sown anytime.
Cover seeds with vermiculite.
Germinates 2-3 weeks at 15-18°C.
Sow 3 seeds per cell in plug tray (tray size 128, 288 recommended)
Keep moist but not wet.
Seeds must be covered thinly.
Keep in cooler conditions after germination occurs.
When grown in nurseries:
Sowing to Germination: 2 – 3 weeks
Germination to Transplant: 3 – 4 weeks
Transplanting to Salable Plant: 4 – 6 weeks.
Cutting-Back at Transplanting: Not necessary
Growing On: 1 plug per 8/9 cm pot; 1-2 plugs per 11/12 cm pot.
