madmblue's Elderberry x 1

Plant: European red elder (Sambucus racemosa) | Variety: Sutherland | 0 |

We’d been looking for this particular plant EVERYWHERE locally, but nobody had any for sale. However, there was a beauty growing at Stoney Creek Gardens, and they were kind enough to give us a nice cutting off their plant. So, now it’s growing in a pot on the deck— it will be added to the side of the deck once we get it going.

“‘Sutherland Gold’ Elderberry Hedge

Clusters of fragrant cream-white, star-shaped flowers decorate the delicate fernlike foliage on this multiple-season performer. Newly formed growth begins fiery copper red, changes to a golden yellow and remains a soothing lime green for the remainder of the summer. Come fall, clusters of red berries form, attracting birds to the garden. Reaches 5-10’ high, with an equal spread.
