Botanic name: Dypsis lutescens
Family: Arecaceae

This palm is a native of Madagascar. It forms clusters, unless trimmed there are numerous suckers around the base. The trunks are yellowish, hence the common name. Each trunk may be to 15 cm in diameter. The leaves are pinnate to 2.5 m long, arching, often twisted.

Plants are male or female. The fruit is around 2 cm long, oblong, purplish-black at maturity.

This is a very common planting in the tropical gardens here.
