Katxena's Royalty Purple Beans x 1

Plant: Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) | Variety: Royalty Purple Pod

This planting has been archived (Harvested)

I planted 6 of these this morning. One row of three was a replacement for the blue lake bush beans that never germinated. The other row of three was new.

Wow, those plants look very healthy! Is the bean really purple? and do these stay bush-like or do they get vine-like? I never grown beans before.

I’ve not seen any beans yet, but I understand that the beans are purple — however, they turn green when they are cooked. So far the beans have remained bushlike, although they do keep trying to climb the cages of the tomatoes behind them, and the stem of the podding radish next to them. So far, they haven’t needed any additional support, but I did put a little “fence” made out of two paint stirring sticks and some twine on one side of them, because they were flopping over a bit and shading my New Zealand spinach. Right now the biggest plants (the ones I planted earliest) are about 2.5 feet tall.
