Today, at my favorite plalce, Longfellow’s Greenhouses, I purchased the plants to put into the five window boxes we bought for the front rail of the pontoon boat. Last year, we bought them in the fall, so we had mums in them, and this year, I thought petunias hanging down off the front of the boat would look pretty. However, I didn’t take into accound that the boat would be MOVING a lot of the time, so I opted for something that was a little more sturdy and could take the wind.
So, I picked up twenty 4 ½” pots of ‘Sonic Sweet Cherry’ New Guinea Impatiens. I didn’t think Impatiens could handle full sun, but the tag says: “Unlike regular Impatiens, these will grow in sunny, or partially sunny areas.” So, the deal was sealed after reading the tag. They have a very dark green, glossy leaf and the flowers are quite large. I saw some in hanging baskets and they’re much bigger than regular Impatiens. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough of the one color I wanted, so I had to get a bi-color pink and white variety. I’m hoping they do well there. Four pots fit into the window boxes perfectly.
