I was so impressed by the purple crane’s bill that I have growing in the Mediterranean patch, that once I had found out what it was, I decided to look and see if there were any shade tolerant varieties to plant elsewhere in the garden. There are, and so I went to my local garden centre to see if they had any. They didn’t have the ones I found online, but they did have this.
It says that it is highly adaptable, and gives good ground cover in sun or shade. The foliage gives good colour in the autumn, and it produces loads of white flowers in the summer.
RHS award of garden merit or no, I hope it is tougher than it looks, the snails are already eyeing it up as a quick snack.
