I brought the crowns with me when I moved from Melbourne.
Except for one. A dear elderly lady from up the road gave it to me as I had done a little weeding for her and wouldn’t accept payment. It has very slender stalks. She called it “Cherry” rhubarb and said it was a very old variety. Quite sweet for rhubarb.
I built a new bed onto the existing garden and will probably keep it as a permanent rhubarb patch.
Jan 2: Yesterday harvested first lot of rhubarb since it was transplanted in . . . was it only October? Made a great dessert last night, adding a couple of sliced apples, handful of sultanas and some lemon zest.
