hellohouse's Everbearing Strawberries

Plant: Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa) | Variety: Everbearing | 0 | Very Happy

Jef and I love strawberries, but the produce we buy from the store tends to go bad before we get around to eating it.

Last spring I planted about six everbearing strawberry plants. They sent out a bunch of runners, and now we’re on our way to having a real, live strawberry patch. It’s very exciting.

I made the mistake of not mulching them properly last year, so we didn’t have much of a harvest. Most of the berries rotted on the plant. And since the plants were so young, there weren’t many berries to begin with.

This year, I’m doing it right—mulching them with pine needles from my neighbor’s back yard. There are already dozens of little baby berries growing, and it’s not even June yet.
