Sown at 15-20C in heated propagator. 9 sown, 8 germinated (8 days). First flowers last week June, setting to fruit about a week later.

2011: I pruned these back rather hard (and now I’m regretting it!): They aren’t springing into life like the other overwintered chillies despite potting up and top dressing with fresh compost.

I’ve sown some more as insurance (they’re fabulous chillies: Hot, fruity and juicy)

I have to say, that chopping them back hard seems to work… They might sulk, but now (as of July) they’re so much more vigorous than the Cayenne and Etna (which weren’t butchered)

21/08/11: Tried some pickling!

Chillies blanched for 30 seconds
Chillies pierced in several places with knife
Packed into a jar, with a few bits of sweet pepper to keep them in place
2 Garlic cloves
2 Allspice berries
2 Cloves
1/2 pint sweetened (with 100g Caster Sugar) hot red wine vinegar poured over
Sealed

Reckon they’ll be ready in about a month!

And my were those pickled chillies yummy! Texture could use some work… maybe salt them?

Overwinter 2011: Kept 2 plants

Thoughts for 2012: Apparently flavour better when green?

June 2012: Due to aphid infestation, have only got one specimen now!

December 2012… Well it finally started fruiting about 2 weeks ago! 10 or so chillies, which I’ve chucked in the freezer! Not sure I’ll bother keeping it on into 2013

Feb 2013: Seems to have red spider mite? Archived
