Scattered Clouds -2°C / 28°FWe’ve even had some very light snow here on Scilly and the poor Channel Islands (which are much nearer to the French coast) have been hit by blizzards and gale force winds bringing drifting snow, closing airports and schools. It’s been a rum old winter, you might say…. So I̵...

I have dreamed of cold frames for years. I have winter gardened before under plastic. It worked well, but had some drawbacks. Mainly, the difficulty of getting in and out of the tunnel, but also, collapsing under snow, not holding warmth as well as they should, and difficulty in harvesting. La...

Light Snow 0°C / 32°F
We had more snow on Saturday and today, so much that it totally covered my previous snowshoe trails. I spent about and hour today breaking and packing down trails. About 3 km of snowshoeing in total according to my GPS. The snow has it’s benefits: I can wander through areas that are usually...

Some food plants like to be grown indoors in Winter.
Basil 'Sweet' Under Attack Whiteflies! Dying, Windowsill garden , Celery Showing True Leaves, and Escarole ...Some of my indoor food plants are doing pretty well on my windowsill despite cool conditions and relatively low lighting. The Celery and endive are thriving in these Wintry conditions. :) Basil apparently is not one of the plants that likes my current indoor conditions. Even with daily watering,... -
