Not a lot to harvest at present though the salad leaves from the greenhouse are very welcome. Just had to have some fresh mint and parsley to add to it too. Unfortunately the radishes are past being edible. These recent warm days are coaxing the fruit into blossom. The crab apple’s fat p...

carrot Nantes 3 Harvesting, celery Harvesting, and parsley Harvesting
carrots, parsley, celery… and three radishes are my harvest of today. I’m rather pleased, because I hadn’t any success with carrots before. This is the first time I’ve sown celery: the sticks are thin and rather stringy, but it tastes good and the flavor is intense. IR...

For the 3rd time in a row, my fantastic parsley shrub. Bought in in a tiny 3" pot from a supermarket last year by my mother, I took it when she was about to bin it (all the stalks had been cut off) and planted it in the ground. Over the next year it grew and was harvested regularly, and I ha...

Definitely warmer today, shrinking the snow until only shady-all-day patches remain. As you can see by the barest covering of the field beans at the farm, we didn’t have very much (pic 2). The ground though, is going to take a while to thaw out completely. The cold frame had a free insul...

It’s raing cats and dogs, mud and puddles are everywhere. But it’s harverst day, so I faced the rain and went to the kitchen garden to pick up the vegetables survived to the first frosts. Bella the dog followed me, absolutely careless of the pouring rain. I harvested: some heads of l...

Said goodbye to family after lunch, who’ve been staying for a few days, then a quick cuppa, intending to spend the afternoon gardening. The weather had other ideas and decided to give everything a watering, so didn’t get out there until after 5pm. The new raised bed was calling to me...

Most of my Borage is pretty mature now. Today I noticed the first flower, so that’s pretty cool. In my last journal I commented on the size which the 2nd photo gives perspective on. Also today I noticed a flower on my banana pepper – the first pepper flower of the season for me. As ...

Parsley 'Giant of Italy' Germinating and Greenhouse garden
I have the usual deep green curled parsley (Envy, Aphrodite etc) but I’ve never grown flat leaf parsley from seed. I had a pot from the local garden shop a couple of years back and it seeded around prolifically but it’s now disappeared from the garden. So I thought I’d grow this...
