Leek ‘Giant Musselburgh’ sown in the greenhouse
Leek 'Giant Musselburgh' and Greenhouse 2013 gardenPartly Sunny 4°C / 39°FI sowed some Leek ‘Giant Musselburgh’ in the greenhouse on the allotment today. This will be the first time I’ve grown them from seed! I was given a few plants by another allotmenteer a couple of years ago but I “heeled” them in near the greenhouse & never did get around to planting them out!...

Spring crocus Blooming, Daffodils planted out on balcony Blooming, and Balcony garden
Cloudy 4°C / 39°F
The Daffs are now flowering on my balcony. They began a couple of weeks ago but have been slow to open due to the decidedly unspring-like weather we have had during the last few weeks. These are the Daffs I planted in the white troughs on the balcony floor back in October 2012. The smaller Mini-D...

I haven’t got as good a showing as last year at present but when the cold wind & snow let up & we get a few warmer day...

Our daughter gave it to me last Saturday when my wife & I went to her house for dinner. Being as Sunday was Mother’s Day she invited us round. Sunny 10°C / 50°F
The one full bed of Leeks, that were given to me as seedlings by a fellow allotmenteer, have now all been harvested. I was down on the plot for a hour or so this afternoon & decided to empty the bed as I need to prepare it as soon as possible for the next crop to go in, possibly main crop pot...

Horniman garden
Sunny 14°C / 57°F
It flew by.
A birthday, a proposal… despite the fact that we need to find the “baby bear’s porridge” ring (the first was too small, and now the second is too big!), Tom and I are engaged.
I have become yet more enamoured with my job. All that goes on in spring is well wort...

Last week saw the first pussy willow puffs, a few small butterflies, and even several mosquitoes. We reached temps approaching 60F, but not all the snow was melted until this week. There is still ice on the river around the edges. Today it is raining after two days of wind attempting to dry the m...Rainy 12°C / 54°F

Chionodoxa luciliae and Chionodoxa sardensis
Partly Sunny 12°C / 54°F
I must document what’s delighting me so much right now. Broadly, all the flowers! …all the buds and shoots too! But Chionodoxa. Just wow. Like the reticulated Irises of a week ago, these are worth growing as neat little alpines in pots at eye level to fully appreciate their spectacle....

March 7th 2012...warm and windy
Well I got the round raised bed mucked out of old mulch and the BD,LEH pruned down. Cut them at about 3 feet. Cut the Spirit of freedom at about 5-6 feet. A couple are wound around the New Dawn and I don’t want to disturb them right now. Defoliated all of them except the 2 Pink knock outs. ...Rainy 25°C / 77°F -
Wow! Yet again a 2-jounal entry day!
I think I could get into this blogging thing! I’ve posted another video on FloraFaunaFul on YouTube. It’s the first video I did when I started to harden my little seedlings off. Hope it helps or amuses someone! :) Don’t forget, Gardening is therapy for the soul. For me at least...Storms 17°C / 63°F -
Cherry blossom out but not opening?
Cherry 'Spire'Update – It’s opening! The rain and 70mph gusts seemed to shake them open…let’s hope it doesn’t shake them off. The Cherry blossom out but not opening, it’s as if it’s growing inside an invisible tube. You can see the full length of the petals with no ou...Overcast 7°C / 45°F -
growing season is just around the corner
Flower 'Drumstick' Sprouting, 2011 seed starting garden , Tomato 'Gajo de Melon' Sprouting, Tomato 'Snowber...Unusually warm day today, so it was great to peek into my seed-starting room and find a bunch of tiny new seedlings — first of the year.Cloudy 19°C / 66°F -
Ancho Gigantea Sprouting and 2011 Backyard Vegetable garden
Cloudy 16°C / 61°F
I am very happy these sprouted. It took a long time, I think because of not being warm enough due to not being on the window sill shelf.
