I received an orchid as an early Christmas gift and it produced several large beautiful flowers, The foliage is just now starting to turn yellow and the outer leaves have begun to droop. I have heard everything from leaving it be to watering more, watering less, dig it up, feed it more, this that...

A Holiday Gift, from Mother Nature. Mood: Very Happy
Nandina 'Harbor Dwarf' Harvesting, Dwarf Umbrella Tree Dying, and Northern Bayberry (Junior) BuddingUmbrella tree that was already planted here when we bought the house was unhappy, constantly suffering from leaf spots and yellowing foliage no matter what I did for it. I decided to remove it. I think I have the wrong soil pH for it. Besides, I’ve never been fond of Scheffleras except ma... -

Success!! (Melt and pour soap-making, Part II)
Cloudy 16°C / 61°F
Unmolding the soaps was fun and exciting! It wasn’t as hard to get the soap out of the molds as I thought it might be, and the impressions are crisp and attractive.
Cutting the tray soap required a fair amount of force, but I made it through and the cut edges look a little rough but not to...

Everywhere else the prices of christmas trees seem to go up and up, but at the nursery here in our little village we still only pay the unbelievable price of just € 9.00. (They grow them nearby, so don’t have to purchase them themselves, no transportation cost…)
I like to decorate it the same way...

Christmas time not in the garden
I just want to get back to my garden. Christmas means more time at the shops, more time catching up, more time spending money on other things, more time doing everything but gardening. And with the bunged up thumb to top it all off… ugh. I really want to get some things done. I guess I&...Storms 27°C / 81°F -

Christmas cactus Dividing and Container garden
I bought this and when I took the wrapper off some of the branches fell off and seemed to have a long root, so I am propagating them and hope to give a lot of them out next year. It seems like some of the flowers are white, some red and some pink. I chose a plant that was full but didn’t ha...Cloudy 28°C / 82°F

Dry Tropics garden
Storms 30°C / 86°F
The rain has started falling and it seems as if this year’s long dry season is over. I can’t work in the garden when the heavens open, so I often have to retreat to the kitchen to do some cooking. At this time of year, I often whip up a couple of batches of my favourite Christmas tre...
