I popped this into the ground when I got it because I didn’t have any potting mix or a big enough pot for it, but the spot it’s in is rather more shady than is really ideal for rosemary. It’s looking reasonably healthy but not showing a lot of growth like my other rosemary plants. However, I’m a bit cautious about disturbing it at this point.
So what do you all think? Will it benefit enough from the extra sun to be worth transplanting into a large pot in a sunny spot, or is it better off in the ground? Also, any tips on transplanting rosemary?

Rosemary is pretty hardy when it comes to transplanting. Just leave it a decent root ball and it does just fine. If you don’t mind keeping up with the watering I would move it to a sunnier spot in a pot…a nice big pot.

Rosemary is pretty tough stuff. Mines in part-shade, planted seeds in the middle of winter (perth-style winter, so not actually that grim) and only gets watered when I remember it – and it’s doing just fine. You could probably put it where-ever you’re most likely to use it the most, and it’ll do just fine.

I’d be all for putting it in the pot, as long as you remember it can dry out faster than if it is in the ground …
