This area has been sprinkled with the wood ash we created with our fire-pit last night (mainly burning some of the woody off-cuts we have accumulated over the past few months). Over the next few weeks, that should increase the pH of the bed and also the nutrients, helping the brassicas which will be ready to go out sometime in spring.
