Harvested the first pumpkin (or winter squash for my Northern hemisphere friends!) today. It was the smallest of the pumpkins on the vine, and it’s always looked a bit different to the others, so i’m not sure what it will be like when we cut it open. It had a pretty thin, manky looking stalk compared to the others, and that was one of the reasons why i decided to harvest it now. I’ll probably leave the others a bit longer.
Strangely enough, having previously thought the pumpkin vines were going to succumb to powdery mildew, at least one of them seems to have been inspired by the rejuvenated tomatoes and has now sent out a lot of healthy looking new growth, including some new flower buds, so we may get a second round of pumpkins
