janietta hazelnuts

Saturday, 17 May 08 (posted about 3 months ago) Sunny 18°C / 64°F

I just received 9 hazel nuts bushes from the National Arbor Society, to replace the ones that had previously arrived dead. I was really surprised that they actually replaced them, figuring that I would just write off the three ventures as charity, and be done with it. When they sent out the annual “how are your bushes doing” survey, I must have been snarkier about not having living bushes for the third year in a row than I thought, for here they are! However, they came in three bags, and in the one bag I opened, only two were alive, and one looks like it needs intensive care.

Fortunately, even though I had given them up as a lost cause, I had not yet begun to rethink or rework the area I wanted them in. Unfortunately, it is full of the overflow trash from the building of the new garden, so today I have to clean it out and then plant those shrubs.
