Can anyone tell me what kind of beetle this is in this picture on my dead nettle. I have tons of these guys! I live in Massachusetts and these beetles are not just in my garden they fly into lights and sometimes right into people too. I also have pretty extensive damage. If I can figure out exactly what they are hopefully I can launch the proper counter attack. :)
Any help is appreciated :)

How big are they? It looks like it could be a June bug http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phyllophaga_%28genus%29

I agree, it looks and sounds like a Junebug, but they shouldn’t be flying around now. Junebugs or sometimes Julybugs usually come out right around dusk and fly around aimlessly crashing into things. We have lots, but the beetles don’t generally do much damage … it’s the grubs you have to watch out for.

Thanks, I think you guys might be right. They look a lot alike. These ones aren’t that large. I have tons of them in my garden though. And your right Ceae they do seem to come out at night, this photo was actually right after sunset, and they fly into everything, even me! They are also attracted to lights. I think the grubs were growing in my soil because sometimes I find them in the dirt when I’m planting.
