garden muncher revealed...

Friday, 09 Jul 10 Cloudy 22°C / 71°F

Ok, it wasn’t a rabbit. It was a woodchuck (aka groundhog). I wound up seeing him by my front deck recently, and he’s definitely more the size needed for such high grazing.

My dad’s also been hit hard by them recently, and they ate his zucchini plants just like mine.. defensive spines and all. (rabbits generally won’t do that unless desperate)

Anyway, time for more pepper-spray on the plants.

As a second line of defense, both decks now have lavender plants on them. The smell of lavender is (allegedly) repellent to rabbits and woodchucks, and we both like it. It also attracts bees, hoverflies and other beneficial insects to the garden.
