The UK started daylight saving today, which means I can mentally say goodbye to the first ‘proper’ winter I’ve seen while I’ve been living in Cambridge. Fittingly, we had the last of the 2009 crop (some potatoes and leeks that had over-wintered) as soup for lunch. The leeks, especially, were delicious. Must make some room for them again this year. The first of this year’s crop (some spring greens from a cabbage ‘durham’) went into Colcannon last night, also tasty!

Phil took a break from her revision to buy some plants and bits for a new feature in the alpine bed, inspired by (or rather ‘shamelessly ripped off from’) a similar design I saw in the University botanic garden last week. She also insisted on purchasing some snake’s head frittilaries, leaving it to me to find a space for them. They went in the back in a place I’m sure will be overrun by the Montbretia Hegemony next year, but hopefully the snake’s heads will come up before the Montbretia’s got going. It’s a plan, anyway.

I did a bit of veg potting on, sowing and so on.
