Last year I thought that the end of January was late to be getting my seed order done. Ha! It took DH and I a while to decide on seeds partly because we spent a lot of time debating the 2010 garden plan. Last night we finally got everything together and placed the order.

Last year we ordered most of our seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom seed company. It’s not clear how much of our germination problems were due to bad weather and poor gardening and how much is because of their seeds. We decided to hedge our bets and go with a different seed supplier this year. So this year our seeds are coming from Seed Savers Exchange. We’re also getting potatoes from the Maine Potato Lady again since we’ve been happy with all the stuff we’ve gotten from her. So here’s what we’re adding to the stash this year:

Onion: Yellow of Parma – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Beet: Early Blood Turnip – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Carrot: St. Valery – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Pea: Amish Snap – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Bean: Kentucky Wonder Pole – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Bee Balm – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Stevia – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Pea: British Wonder – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Pea: Green Arrow – Seed Saver’s Exchange
Potato: Mountain Rose – Maine Potato Lady
Potato: All Blue – Maine Potato Lady
Potato: German Butterball – Maine Potato Lady

The rest of our seeds will come out of our current seed stash. I’ll get these added in the folia stash as soon as they arrive,

I have mixed feelings on Bakers Creek too. They’ve got loads of great varieties, but I had similar germination problems and thoughts about them, so I didn’t order from them this year either.

I’m with you two, lots of germination problems, not to mention the absolutely ridiculous wait time for me last year (even though people who ordered well after me received their seeds way before I did, and nothing of mine was back ordered). They apologized and send me some free seeds, which was nice, but the poor germination was the killer for me. Which is really unfortunate because they do have some amazing varieties. I think they might just be getting a bit too big for their britches.
