Yesterday we had unseasonally warm temperatures (10 degrees C when it is typically -10 to -20!) and most of the snow has melted. As a result, my coldframe is once again visible and accessible. I had left my min/max thermometer in there and much to my surprise the minimum temperature was only -8 (quite impressive considering we’ve had many days in the -20s.) And, the ‘Regal’ and ‘Longstanding Bloomsdale’ Spinach look as happy as they do in the spring!!!
So, I picked spinach and we’re going to have it for salad tonight. This is by far the latest (or earliest?) harvest I have ever had from outside. One of the items on this summer’s agenda will be to build another coldframe. Fresh vegetables from outside at this time of year sure is a novelty!

Awesome! I want a cold frame too!
Did you build it, buy it, or was it there when you moved in?

I built the cold fram last spring. It’s small — about 3 feet by 2 feet. I brought it with me when we moved.
