The Peron was an impulse purchase, and we weren't sure how much we would like the fruit, given that it was a commercial breed. So we planted it in the back with the same soil as the others but in a slightly more shady spot along the east fence (though we did trim the persimmon tree to give it more sun).
It was a very vigorous, indeterminate grower, spreading 3-4 feet in each direction from the crown. It outgrew wilt damage and did not drop the fruit in affected areas.
The plant ripened its crop all at once, yielding 3-4 pounds of ripe tomatoes in September and another 1-2 pounds of green tomatoes that were wonderful fried. We did not enjoy the fruit fresh, but found that when slow roasted and run through the food mill that they make an exquisite pasta sauce.
We purchased 20 pounds of dry farmed Early Girls for sauce this year, but next year we plan to plant as many Peron Sprayless as possible and make sauce from that, as the Early Girl sauce is too sweet for our tastes.
