Our broccoli is starting to crop as fast as I can harvest it. I have to be out there picking before dinner every night really or it gets away from me.

I've blanched and frozen three sandwich-sized bags of florets in the last few days. It feels good to be storing food away again.

We had fresh broccoli with our fish and other veggies tonight, however I need to step up the quality control. I rinsed the heads briefly under the tap before steaming them and unknown to me were several hitchhikers (cabbage moth caterpillars) firmly hooked into the buds... I had no clue until my 12yo daughter pulled one out of her mouth (eeew). Apparently they are a little chewy. With that all important cue I managed to remove the caterpillar from my plate without trying it for texture :)

NB. Now that the cabbage moths have finally discovered the broccoli, check the heads for stowaways as standard.
