It seems to be. This is the first year that I have tried to compost, and I don't know how long it is supposed to take before you begin to see results. I was surprised at how little smell there is. I really don't smell much of anything when I open the barrel.

These barrels came from my hubby's work after they were tripple cleaned. We have several of them. They have 2 3" valves on top. I just open one and put my kitchen/garden veggie waste in there, close the valve, and roll it around 6 or 7 times.

If I am doing something wrong I would like to know. It does appear that it is composting, I think. I am not certain whether or not I am just seeing the coffee grounds, or if it is actually the beginnings of composting, but I guess I will know in another month or two. :) It has been interesting.

I asked hubby when we started this project if he thought we would need another barrel before spring, and he does not seem to. We'll see!! It is definitely cheaper than buying a set up for composting!! :) Free is not always best, but I think this time it was a great idea. (It was his idea).

I will try to take a pic of the set up later today. It is nothing very impressive. Just a 55 gallon drum sitting on the edge of my veggie garden.
